Strasbourg - how beautiful
Entry 16 of 28 | show all | print this entry |
Well, we almost got caught up in the train strike, which lasted for two and a half days causing mayhem for many travellers. Luckily everything was back in order at the end of the day yesterday and we were only delayed by a couple of hours in getting to Strasbourg.
They have a great offer for tourists, for 11Eu40; we bought a coupon book that provides us with free entry into many attractions and activities as well as 50 and 35 percent reductions on many attractions. We are into our money already as we would have spent more than 20Eu on the things we did so far today. Tomorrow we expect to do the free bike rental and tour around for a half day or so. One thing that was really enjoyable that we were able to do, for free I may add, was a 1h10 boat ride around the city on the river Ill. Of course, I ended up having a little cat nap (Tanya), but I was still able to see some of the most beautiful buildings, especially in the Petite France region of Strasbourg. We also went up to the top of the Strasbourg cathedral, after 352 steps, we made to the top. It was well worth the walk up, as we were able to see all of Strasbourg, and some of the Black Forest. We also hopped on the mini-tram, which was 35 minutes, and similar to the boat cruise, as it took us to the most popular points in the city.
We still have a number of other activities we can do from our coupon book.
Strasbourg is very beautiful; it's amazing! the people are very nice for the most part, everything is so clean. We also have a very cute hotel room, litterally steps from the train station. The only thing negative zould be the homeless people that are everywhere. Although it is probably not as bad as Rome; it seems more omnipresent and unexpected in such a beautiful clean city.
All for now, hopefully we get some good weather tomorrow.
Ciao Tanya and Colleen
