We completed month one of a yoga program where we did 4 hours of yoga and 2-3 hours of lecture daily... 6 days a week. Whew! It was a lot, but it was a rich program, and we grew a lot from it
. Other than yoga, we explored the island, hiked to waterfalls and natural swimming holes, collected shells, read and drank fresh coconuts on the beach, swam in the ocean, snorkelled, ate fresh fruit, napped under palm trees... you know... all those things you do on a tropical island. It was quite the life, and we knew it.
We also met some quality friends for life. Our best buds were a couple from Italy, an Aussie, a Canadian, a Columbian, and an American couple originally from India. We were quite the international clan,... but shared so many wonderful times together. We laughed hard and cried hard,... all those real moments that bring you back to what really matters. It was sad to have to leave, but we are filled with gratitude for the amazing experience, and are already plotting how to get back soon. :)
Next destination,... Istanbul, Turkey.
Changing our plans to stay in Thailand for an extra 5 weeks was a great decision for us. Ko Phangan is a beautiful island, and the yoga program was fantastic. We rented a scooter and a sweet little bungalow right on the beach for super cheap, with a full bathroom, kitchen and big front porch for the month. It felt good to actually unpack our bags and put some roots down for the first time in 5 months. Not to mention, there's really nothing like waking up and falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing....so peaceful. It's supposedly not the most beautiful beach in Thailand, but it was one of the nicest beaches we'd ever gone to... white sand, coconut trees, aqua-marine see-through water... pure paradise.
