We stayed in a small inexpensive hostel in Nadi last night.  It was a little sketchy, but had a bed and a shower (well, kindof). The shower head only let a trickle of water out at a time, which made hair washing interesting... but we made it work.  We were so tired once we got there that we ate, read up on some New Zealand facts and hit the sack.   We got a ride to the airport from a sweet local, Don, and we had a short 3 hr flight to New Zealand.  The take off and landing were both beautiful with the vistas of Fiji and NZ... wow... wish the window wasn't in my way for pictures sake.

Anyway, Colin bought a drum in Fiji, which they almost confiscated in immigrations in NZ because it is made of wood and we failed to list it our customs form.  Luckily, Colin's a good salesman and schemed our way into taking it with us.  Once through customs,... we went to the I-site desk (info desk) to try and get some free maps and info on car rental.  We are going to eventually buy a car here, since we'll be here for almost 3 months, but the car fairs are tomorrow and Sunday, so we figured we'd just rent a car for a couple of days to buy us some time.  So, we have a cute little red toyota for the next few days and Colin's been dominating left hand driving from the right side of the car.  I'm a little intimidated since we got a stick shift and we'd be driving on the left... hopefully the car we buy will be an automatic.  I navigated (and to all that know me,... you know this is not my strong suit), and yet we still made it to our destination with a big sigh from both of us!  Go team!

We had decided to somewhat splurge on our first night and get a cheap private hotel room so we could get some sleep. (Colin hasn't fully transitioned to the time zone change)  But once we "arrived" at our hotel that we found from the 2011 Lonely Planet Guide Book, we found out that that hotel no longer existed.  Luckily, it had just been renamed by the new owner... and it turned out really cool.  It even has a new and modern feel to it and includes a kitchen with a stove and frig.  Score!  We just bought some groceries to make dinner tonight and we even have stove to make tea in the morning.  Life is good.  Tomorrows checklist include money exchange (we have to get cash to buy a car), look for a car (saw a backpacker vehicle with a flyer advertising it's sale, so that could work), buy a pre-paid cell phone, and explore Auckland.  Day 8 of our journey almost past and my tummy calls.  Sending lots of love!!!!
