Hey all,
Sorry it's been a few days busy, busy. (and no access to net) Tuesday we started our day with a walking tour of Amsterdam. The weather was freezing and we were dressed like a summers day. (Tameka froze with her shorts on). The tour was good and gave us an insight into the city. (there is more than drugs and sex). After the tour we went to the Anne Franks house. It is hard to believe that they all lived in the tiny attic for 2 years. We are both inspired now to read the book. After that we headed across town to the Heinekin Experience. It is the original brewery that has been turned into a museum. It was preety cool fun and you get 3 beers with the tour. I have never had a Heinekin and loved it.(colin). But then again all beer over here tastes better than back at home. We then left a little tipsy.
We just walked around the red light district that night and just coldnt resist the beautiful chocolate and vanilla cake ........... Very nice...... We then found a little pub had a beer and watched the cricket. Australia v Sri Lanka live which was pretty cool. The next day we went to Keukenhof gardens advertised as the "greatest flower show on earth" How could we come all this way to Holland and not see some tulips and windmills!!! All I can say is in the Netherlands YOU PAY FOR EVERYTHING the dutch definitely know how to make money... it was 13 euro each to get in to see the flowers (which were beautiful) 28 euro to catch the train and 5 euro for the bus and they expected 0,30 euro for the toilet!!! (I'll wee on the gardens before I pay for the toilet!) AND I was VERY disappointed as in the whole place (which is massive) there is only ONE windmill!!!! It was still a lovely day though.. It was a very long day and after all the walking around (which we do everyday jeez Im getting fit!) we crashed it bed unfortunately in our 12 bedder room which was almost full (11 people) everyone else obvioulsy decided they were having a big one that night and all came in at different times in the early morning and dropped just about everything on the wooden floors and were almost jumping on their squeaky bunks.... lotsa sleep that night! (12 people definitely too much in one small room!)
Today being Thursday we caught the train to a town in Belgium called Bruges. (It is near the coast of Belgium). The train took about 3 hours to get here which seemed like nothing compared to the previous journeys. The town itself is just beautiful. Lots of canals and grand old buildings. The town is a Medievel town with no tourist attractions. They say the entire town is a tourist attraction because of the old castle type buildings, narrow streets and canals. The town has lots of chocolate and beer. Which is everywhere in belgium. (tameka is looking forward to some taste testing of the chocolate). Our hostel is a little different and unique. The rooms are a climb up a narrow spiral stair case with our room being on the 3rd floor. To go to the showers you have tyo walk down the stairs through the bar, the kitchen, the courtyard up another narrow flight of stairs where it is unisex showers that you have to pull and hold onto a chain to have your shower. A different experience that has to be seen to be believed. The Hostel itself though is really quick cosy and friendly. Close to everything which is handy. We are actually on the computer right now in the middle of the bar enjoying a 'Westmalle' in a goblet style glass.(belgium beer) These europeans have really got it made.
Well that enough for now, gotta enjoy these beers. Take care and will talk soon. Lots of love Tameka and Colin xoxoxo More thumbnails ...
