It was a slow start to the following day, for obvious reasons. I had in mind getting to Brugge at about 10.00 but instead it was something closer to 1.00. Claire was also heading that direction so we decided to go together. I did think Brugge was kinda cool, but in keeping up the act I had to complain in my thickest Irish accent and Claire got a kick out of being there with an Irishman. I had my karate chop ready for a midget man and at the bottom of the bell tower I was really hoping to meet two fat American tourists so I could tell them they were too fat to go up there. We went up the bell tower which was pretty cool, great view. By the way, he wasn’t lying in the movie..
We decided pretty quickly the Belgium people, or at least the ones outside Brussels are pretty... hummm lets say 'peculiar and quirky'. Everyone we spoke to was a bit weird in their own way. Weather it was an over the way over the top helpfulness, strange intense staring tendency, or the other examples which escape me right now. It was strange, but also funny. Belgians have a unique character and I like that.
I arrived back in Brussels at about 11pm and headed straight back to the hostel, wrecked. Back in the dorm everyone who was there on the first night had moved on. It was a bit strange having the room all to myself. The feeling however was short-lived as the other four beds were soon occupied by three young Spanish girls. Every guys dream... ah, no! They were loud, overly excited and had terrible English. I had a bit of R&R planned with an early train to catch in the morning so I was only as friendly has I had to be.
