This will be short!  We flew out of Bangkok and arrived in Phuket (pronounced Puket) to spend two nights at Bang Tao Beach at a resort hotel.  Far too many people, but the ocean was beautiful at night once everyone had gone.  Then we caught the ferry to Phi Phi Island and stayed at a place called PhiPhi Natural...not a nudist colony..at the Northernmost end of the Island.  To get there, we were met at the ferry by a man who led us out to his small boat.  We waded thigh deep through the water, carrying our back packs and hoping not to fall.  He helped us in and we landed safely at the tiny pier at the end of the island.  You have all seen places like this in pictures and maybe some of you have actually been here, but it's hard to describe.  White sand, coral reefs, turquoise water, my string bikini and romantic walks on the beach.  Life consisted of tanning, eating spring rolls, drinking, kayaking, getting Thai massages by the ocean, roaming the beach looking for an Italian restaurant we swore we saw earlier, but turned out it had switched its sign later in the evening. Basically, life was slow and warm and good.
Sadly, it was back to Phuket and a couple of nights at Kamala Beach at a resort...overcrowded, but fun.  Spent an afternoon in Patong and realized we were done with Asia.  Oh, some of you are going to kill me for this, but I'm writing to you today from a little library south of Sydney...Australia.  Asia was great, but it was not as cheap as I expected in the southern part of Thailand, there was always, everywhere, shocking amounts of garbage and oil floating in the water and lying on the beach, and, sadly, the thrill of the spring roll was gone and I was craving pasta.  But, with respect to my Thailand loving friends, I think you'd be surprised at the amount of development that is happening here.  We spoke to a couple of expats who said that it's not the way it was even 5 years ago.  I think I missed the boat on the real beauty of Thailand.
And so, thanks to the Internet, we flew to Singapore, Brisbane and Sydney and arrived at Darren's about 30 hours later (every flight was late).  I really loved Australia and the idea of hanging out for a month at Darren's and having a 'real' life was more appealing than bouncing around poluted beaches.  What I don't think the world has realized yet is that the beaches in Oz are pristine and long and that's where I'm headed right now.  G'day, Mates xx
