Continuing down the Mekong, we stopped at another village, but the difference from the first was startling.  It was also a poor village, but obviously more affluent than the last.  The kids were accustomed to tourists and we were met with "Saw-Ba-dee"..."You buy?"  in rounds.  We were also met with the eyes of several of the younger men of the village who apparently liked our pale skin and were prepared to offer marriage.  Thank God for the tour guide.
We stopped in at the Pak Ou Caves which are filled with Buddhas.  Big Buddhas, little Buddhas, Walking Buddhas, you name it, that Buddha was in the cave.  It was quite a sight.
Luang Prubang was a beautiful town to arrive at after two days on the river.  We found a great coffee shop for breakfast (Canadian owned) and after a hard day of visiting temples and shopping, I found myself with my feet in the care of a capable reflexoligist.  Oil massage, pounding and ending off with a neck and shoulder massage.  My God, I thought, my life is so hard.
We played another game of volleyball with a couple of locals and took them out for BeerLao down by the river.  They were studying tourism and medicine and we discovered that a year of university education costs them about 112 US dollars per year.  Very few people get a higher education here because they can't afford it. 112 dollars per year...and that's the weak US dollar!!  Kop Chai, Allison
