After one more night surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges, it was off to Queenstown, a tourist centre that is designed to separate you from your money. I will hit the events in the next blog, this blog I dedicate to last night.
If there was any uncertainty of my flashpacker status, then we have clarity this morning. Last night the Stray bus people were booked into XBase (real name) or Discovery Lodge (pretty name, but I should have asked what was being discovered). I write today on one hour of sleep, after a night from hell. I have not been healthy. Don't want to go on about it, but besides the ankle, I'm on my second dose of antibiotics that aren't working and I think I have a virus that has affected my throat, ear and eyes. Needless to say, I feel great! So, I wanted to take a night and a day out of tourism and just chill in the hip and happenin' Queenstown. No luck! The bar under the hostel started pumping out tunes at 9:00 and they got progressively louder as the night went on. Then the puking started...fortunately, not mine, unfortunately, the drunks'. Outside the window, outside the door, followed by much yelling in a variety of languages. There was no sleep to be had and then when the other 6 people from my charming mixed dorm room (is it me or is that just not right?) came home stumbling over each other and then started snoring, I knew that it was time to go. Ann, my Canadian friend from Van, kept looking over the bunk at me asking, "are you awake?" I was definitely awake. At 7:00 AM this morning, we headed to the YHA where we are now booked into a twin room (with a TV!!!) and as soon as we check in (2:30 PM) I hope to catch up on my sleep and my laundry. So there it is, the trials and tribulations of a flashpacker. Tomorrow, I go to Milford Sound and Tuesday I'm on a wine tour. R & R here I come! Cheers
