Although we arrived in one of the 345 days per year that it pours rain in Franz Josef, we brought the sunshine with us and had an amazing day.  Today I climbed the Franz Josef Glacier.  Ankle well strapped and crampons on my boots, I climbed, step by step, into the area near the middle that has crevasses as blue as the most beautiful lagoons.  We were able to slide through these crevasses to more steps that continued on to more beautiful views that the last.  The reflection off the ice of the rare sunshine left us all bronzed and looking like bathing beauties from the neck up.  Of course, the raccoon look is very in here.  Sunglasses left a sexy white imprint on all of our faces.
Tonight I headed out for a great "flashpacking" supper with a Canadian woman and a man from The Netherlands.  We are all older and professionals and enjoyed a wonderful meal with great conversation.  Headed back to the Monsoon (their logo is "It rains...we pour") for some entertainment from the younger crowd.  Let me return to the term "flashpacking" for a second.  Just to clarify, I was told recently that I was not really a backpacker, but rather a flashpacker.  I was insulted, but didn't know why.  They explained that a flashpacker carried a pack, sleeps in hostels, but goes out for Pinot Noir and delicious meals.  So, I must confess that this is the travel blog of a flashpacker.  Apologies to anyone who may be disappointed by this sudden change in the narrator.  And yes, the meal in the restaurant and the subsequent breakfast the next morning with real coffee (sorry, uncle ken) officially place me in the flashpacker category!
