Sometimes the greatest moments are the simplest. Dined last night with the lovely Irish Philomena from the tour. We chose well. A beautiful Italian restaurant called Diogini's around the corner from the hostel. Linen table cloths and sparkling, heavy cutlery and three charming waiters all at our service. I know it's just eating, just food, but it was the highlight of Adelaide. I, being off the veggie wagon, had corichetelli (yikes, spelling?) with garlic, roquette and pan fried scallops surrounded by black mussels. Oh, my!! Philomena had spaghetti with a Napoli sauce, fresh basil and local giant prawns with black mussels. We shared a bottle of a Cabernet blend which, although not from the Barossa Valley, was enjoyable despite going against our waiter's recommendation. They eventually sat with us for a while and we laughed at the antics. They treated us to a glass of something Italian and nutty as our desert. It was a fun night and the company was perfect.
After yesterday's day of rest (I took myself out of the tourism industry for the day), I headed out to find good coffee and went to the South Australian Museum where they had an excellent exhibit on Aborigional culture and art. Then, ate lunch in the botanical gardens which are in beautiful springtime bloom. No tulips here, just your run of the mill calla lilies and birds of paradise...the gardner's will know and care! Tonight I hope to spend a little less, but still find good food....summer rolls and peanut sauce sound about right.
So, back to yesterday. The rest day was strategic. I have been having a great time, but somewhere on the Great Ocean Road I started to think too much as only an INFP can (if you are one, you know what this means). I imagined leaves being raked and preparations for Thanksgiving dinner. I imagined my wonderful colleagues on their PD day at their meetings and then laughing together over lunch. I missed some of the incredible people I have met on this trip and may never see again. I missed Irish eyes. I missed my dog. I guess six weeks into this trip I have my first symptoms of homesickness. So, I took a day to close my eyes and let all of you into my memory. It's all good now. No worries, Mates! Just had to take a day.
