Well, I just got off a 24 hour shift, came home, took a nap and am getting ready for my first 36 hour shift. It's not too bad, I got some good sleep last night since we didn't have any calls after 11:00.

So I thought I'd take a second and show all of you who are interested my truck. This is Medic 82 stationed at Woodlands Fire Dept. Station 2. Woodlands is the only fire department in the area that has Intermediates and Paramedics on their trucks, as well as the hardware and drugs to support ALS calls. Kind of cool.
The medic crews and fire crews are completely separate, which is a change from me because in Alaska all the crews are cross-trained and integrated. I dunno, it's interesting enough I guess... sometimes at the station the medic crews feel like a third wheel, like we're invading the firefighter's space. I'm having fun, though. Only another month to go!

Internet has been pretty hit or miss. The only Fire station to have internet abilities is Station 21, and I'm only there a handful of times. The only other time I can get on the internet guaranteed is when I go to IHOP and have breakfast. When I'm here with the Paramedic I'm staying with, it's pretty hit or miss. Luckily right now I'm not having any trouble with it.

So I'm gonna be a fat guy here for a second and talk about the food that's in Texas. First of all, I've found I don't really care for Texmex. It's really rather bland... I mean seriously. There's very little spice or seasoning in it. There is an odd fascination with Queso here - it's basically cheese dip with salsa. You can get it damn near everywhere. Thankfully there's a lot more than Texmex here. . See, in Alaska we have only four or five choices... Fast food, Acapulco's for Mexican food, Pizza Boys for pizza, a couple of chinese places, Froso's for Italian, and Sal's for 30 minutes sitting on the crapper (seriously, if you live in Soldotna try it... but plan on the 30 minutes immediately following to be in your bathroom... it's like clockwork.).

Here they have an Olive Garden along I-45 that's quite good, Sonic - which is pretty much an "All American" fast food place but very good. Denny's, IHOP, Waffle House, Jack in the Box (damn how I missed Jack!). They also have A&W, Dominos, more barbeque places than you can shake a rib at, and a local fast-food restaurant chain called Whataburger. I grabbed lunch there a few days ago... actually it was a pretty darn good hamburger. I have yet to try a BBQ place, but I was thinking of heading to one down the road called "Texas Roadhouse." It looked fairly good. On the other hand, I don't really wanna go out... I'll probably just order from Dominos.

So this is it for today. I need to get some laundry done so I have a clean uniform for tonight. I miss everyone really bad and can't wait to see you all again soon!
