What is it about life that makes it so real to us? Why are we so sure it's not an illusion? What if we are all actors in a movie and the sets around us change according to the script? Who is writing the script? What if the script writer goes on strike? What happens next? Does life as we know it, STOP?
What if we are the script writer, and we decide what happens in our lives? What if we are also the producer and the director, and we decide on the sets, and the direction we want the script to take?
What happens if we are only an actor, and someone else is the producer and the director? All we can do is follow the script and listen to the Director. How does all this impact how our life is played out?
I've been having a hard time following my script. The script still happens as it should. It's only that I haven't been reading it very carefully. Luckily I have an awesome Director making sure my life follows the script, making the necessary changes along the way to ensure the story happens in the best possible way. The Director wants to make sure I have an Academy Award winning life. The Director is so good at what he does that he has more Academy Awards then he can count.
One of the pamphlets I picked up was for the "Alamo Village Movie Location". It's located in Brackettville, Texas. I hadn't the faintest idea where Brackettville, Texas was until after I decided to head west towards the Christmas Mountains. Then I noticed that it said that it was a ½ hour from Del Rio. So great, I'll camp in Del Rio, stay a couple of days and then go visit this movie location.
There was something I misread in the pamphlet. I thought it said that it was 30 miles past Del Rio, not 30 miles before Del Rio. So I'm driving down the highway when I see the sign saying that Brackettville is before Del Rio. Oh-oh! I don't know what camping facilities are there. Maybe I'll go to the Movie Location and then continue on to Del Rio.
As you come into Brackettville you find the old Fort Clark. This old U.S. Army Fort was established in 1852 to protect the "lower road" from San Antonio to El Paso. Virtually all U.S. Calvary units and many Infantry lived, trained, or visited at Fort Clark while patrolling West Texas and the U.S. - Mexico border. The Fort was closed in 1946 and has since become a haven for those who seek a peaceful recreation, resort and residential surrounding.
And guess what? It also has a campground....with Wi-fi. Bonus.
So I set up the trailer and go visit the Alamo Movie Location.

Why here? Because Kinney County rancher and businessman James T. "Happy" Shahan convinced John Wayne's Batjac Productions to film The Alamo here. Since, hundreds of other production companies have used our one-of-a-kind set located in the middle of a 30 square mile working ranch.

Unfortunately there were no movies being shot today. It would have been neat to watch. But then I might not have left for a few days. The buildings that are there don't look like much but you would be surprised what "movie magic" can do to a few old buildings. So little of what we would consider real when we watch a movie is actually "real". What we believe has been shot inside a building that we've seen the outside of is usually shot inside a soundstage hundreds if not thousands of miles away.
With DVDs now that are packed with extras that show how movies are made, the secrets of movie making is no longer hidden. Has that ruined the pleasure of watching a well made movie? I don't think so. I think it has actually enhanced our viewing pleasure.
What if the same is happening with life? What if the secrets of living the "Meaning of Life" is slowly being revealed to us as "extras" on a DVD? Some days we watch the extras on a DVD. Other days we only want the actual movie. What if the extras are more interesting than the actual movie? Do we watch only the extras?
Where do we find the "extras" to life? Do we need a secret password to unlock them? Have they always been there but we've been ignoring them? Maybe the "technology" wasn't there for us to have access to them before? Maybe we weren't ready to have access to them?
Questions? Questions? Questions?
