I wasn't ready to leave New Orleans. It's one of those places where I found I wasn't there long enough to experience it all. Unfortunately I had to leave as I need sleep. The campground I was at was on the takeoff path of the airport and it wasn't very far away. Lucky for me the airport has night takeoff restrictions so the planes don't fly through the night. But as soon as 6 am passed the biggest and noisiest airplane would take off right overhead. Well, that's what it sounded like.
But that wasn't the only noise in the neighborhood. A few blocks away was the main rail line into New Orleans. At about 3 am every night a few trains would pass. I'm assuming that Louisiana must have some whistle law for trains as they would keep that whistle blowing for the whole time they were passing through the area we were in
And then...the first few nights it was the late night revellers coming back to their trailers at all hours of the night.
All that to say that it feels like I haven't slept for a month, and that I had to get out of town.
Now I'm an hour and a half from Texas and not really sure where I'm heading. I'm gonna spend the night here and decide in the morning if I stay a second night. That will depend on how quiet things are here. The train tracks are a little further away here but I've already heard the trains blowing their horn a few times.
I am in the heart of Cajun Country with a lot of french nearby so I just might stick around a second night and check things out tomorrow. Maybe I'll finally find a swamp and some crocodiles.
I went for a walk around the campground before supper and as I was coming up to one trailer I said Hi to the guy outside of it. I passed the trailer and it had Alberta plates. So I turn back and go talk to the guy. They're also from Calgary. He said that when I passed he thought I looked familiar. He thinks we met somewhere else along the road.
Now I'm gonna rack my brains until I figure out where. The funny thing is they're coming from Texas. They're heading back towards Ontario as they need to be back in Canada by April 1 and he said it's still too cold to head home. Another reason they have to get back to Canada is that his wife broke her wrist and the hospital bill was $20,000. They're fighting with the insurance company, or maybe it was Alberta Health, to get reimbursed for that.
That's all for now. I'll let you all know where I am when I figure out where that is that I'm going.
