Last night after my entertaining supper I stopped in to the motels check-in area to pick up some tourist site brochures. I was planning on heading to Santa Fe and I knew there were a few National Monuments/Parks worth seeing. My waiter at the restaurant had also mentioned taking the Sandia Peak Tram.
Before supper yesterday I had watched a movie with the actress Marissa Tomei in it. After supper I was flipping channels when I started watching a little bit of the movie National Treasure-Book of Secrets. The scene I came upon was when they were looking for an interpretation of this plaque that has a symbol of Cibola (City of Gold). Having seen the movie numerous times I didn't watch much more.
Why is any of this important. Well? This is my life and my life can be considered a little "odd" as per most peoples standards.
I'm flipping through the pamphlets I picked up and notice that there's this scenic drive called the Turquoise Trail that goes to Santa Fe. Along this highway is the scenic trail to the top of Sandia Peak. Why take the tram when you can drive.
Next thing I notice is the town of Madrid. I've been wanting to find this town since I watched the movie "Wild Hogs" during my "Journey of Discovery" (yes, read the book). In the movie 4 guys take off on their motorcycles for a cross country ride to get away from it all and end up in the town of Madrid, NM. I had no idea where in New Mexico it was located.
I leave this morning for the Turquoise Trail. Come up to a sign that says Sandia Peak. After I turn off I see another sign "Cibola National Forest". Uh? Didn't I just see that name in the movie last night?
Now I'm driving to the Peak...all 11,000 feet of twists and turns. Yes, I'm really enjoying driving my car here. As I'm driving it hits me. Marisa Tomei was the female lead in the movie Wild Hogs.
My life is so weird...in a good way. The thing is, no one believes me when I say that movies, music and books, and my life are closely intertwined. The hard part is knowing what I've experienced, movie, music, or reading that will show up in my life, and when.
These are but a couple of the "coincidences" in my life.
Madrid was an awesome town. An abandoned mining and ghost town, it is now an artist community. Being located on a scenic byway, motorcycle riders love riding out to this town. The restaurant that "Maggie" (Marisa Tomei) owned in the movie is still located in the town. It was built specifically for the movie and though it looks like a diner, it's not. It's a gift store with all the booths and main counter from the movie.
I chatted with numerous people during my visit.
I love my life.
