Where I stayed

I pack up and leave in the morning in the general direction of El Paso. I've decided to stay as far south as possible where the Continental Divide is lower. I've also already done the more northerly route through Arizona and New Mexico (read my book) a couple years ago and I might as well see as much new stuff as possible.

Using Mapquest on the computer the route heads out of Globe and takes a quick turn towards I-10. I enter my destination in my GPS and the route takes me cross-country and rejoins I-10 further east. Choices. Which route to take?

I decide to stay on the secondary highway. It was all downhill from Globe and the road was mostly straight. Slowing down and checking out all the small towns along the route made for a more interesting drive. You never know what you might come across along the highway in small towns. The sights are few and far between when you're on the Interstate.

I had decided to stay in Las Cruces and take the car out for some sightseeing tomorrow. Why drive all the way to El Paso and have to double back with the truck and car hauler.
