Up at 5am, or was is 4...3...2...1............
I didn't get the sleep I was hoping for. My new "friends" from across the hall had gone down to the basement to the kitchen at 10 when I went to bed. At 11h30 they came back up and were making a lot of noise and woke me up. Then they headed to the bar. Then my roommates came back somewhere around 2, then the guys across the hall came back around 3.
Five A.M. came way too quickly. I quietly got dressed and as I'm walking out of my room, Dan is also coming out of his room across the hall. He's also quite tired due to his "buddies" raucousness during the night. He had told them to quiet down a few times. He's going to check on Liz and meet me on the main floor. He comes down a few minutes later and says that Liz has slept in. I wait a few minutes then leave as the train leaves in 10 minutes. Dan says they'll catch up.
The train leaves without Dan and Liz. You have to change trains twice to get to the Jungfraujoch. It's not until the second stop that the sky is starting to lighten up with some pre-dawn light. I get out and take a few pictures. The third part of the train ride is a 9 km long ride through the mountain. Over 100 years ago, they carved out a 9 km long tunnel in the mountain. How amazing is that? We make 2 stops along this route where they've carved out lookouts. There are windows but they are mostly covered in frost. These pictures are mostly blurry because of this, but have given an eerie effect to some others.
This 6 am train ride to the "Top of Europe" has very few passengers. We arrive at the top at 8h30 and I walk directly to the uppermost observation deck. I'm the first one there. The sun is just coming up over the ridge. Perfect timing. There's hardly a cloud in the sky. Awesome. I take a lot of pictures. Then I go down to have some breakfast. I walk out at another point onto the mountain at about 9h30 to take more pictures from a   lower level and then I notice Liz and Dan. They had missed the 6 am train by about 5 minutes. They took the 7 am one and have just arrived.
We walk around taking pictures from the various points available and then head out to a trail they've cleared on the mountain ridge. Liz decides to make a snow angel in the fresh powder. At 11h30 we head back to the train and have decided to stop in Grindelwald for lunch. Liz has to be on the 14h20 train back to Interlaken as she has to catch her train back to Dusseldorf as she works in the morning. We walk around town and find a restaurant with a patio overlooking the valley. The weather is perfect. We have an awesome lunch. I've decided to stick around and tour Grindelwald and catch a later train. During lunch Liz mentions that she had left her cell phone in Munich a couple weeks ago during one of her weekend excursions. I tell her she can have mine. I'm leaving in 2 days and no longer need it. It's a pay as you go and I had acquired it during my stop in Bremen and so it's great for her to use during the remainder of her internship in Germany the next couple of months. She's very appreciative.
The train Liz and Dan have to catch is leaving soon. We can't get the waitress's attention for the bill. I tell them I'm buying. Their company this morning is worth the cost of the meal.
I walk around town and take a bunch of pictures then head back to Interlaken as I am exhausted from the lack of sleep.
Two days ago I wrote that I was lonely. From that point on I've met innumerable people to chat with and had an amazing day with Dan and Liz. The weather has also been perfect. The Universe always provides what we require if we ask.
Thank You Universe, What? Is!, God and everything and anything else we may call whatever provides us with what we want and need.
Think It! Feel It! Live It!
I Live an Amazing and Charmed Life!
Two days left in my Expedition! The Final Chapter yet to come. Enjoy a few of the pictures that I took today. I had to use 2 memory cards today.
Thanks Liz and Dan for the great day!
