Last night I went and saw the play "Wicked". It's the untold, or in this case, the rest of the story about who the "Wicked Witch of West", from the Wizard of Oz fame, really was. As in real life, there's always a second side to every story. What we have been told and/or perceive as reality can be totally different then was is "real". Only by having all the information or by looking at things from a different perspective can we make informed decisions.
Well, my stay in London is almost over. In the morning I leave for Stratford-upon-Avon, then Carlisle (in the north of Britain), then Stirling in Scotland for a couple of nights, then 2 nights in a hostel in Edinburgh, and finally 1 night in Kilmarnock before heading to Ireland
This pre-buying B&B vouchers has been more of a hassle then it was worth. The problem seems to be that I'm travelling single and require only a single room and a lot of B&Bs don't accommodate singles. I spent most of today trying to confirm places in Ireland and figuring out what to do in Scotland. That's all done but I had to use 2 vouchers for 1 night so that I could be close to the ferry for leaving Ireland and I didn't use 1 voucher I paid for Britain/Scotland as I tried dozens of places in northern Scotland and they all came back unavailable so I booked a hostel. Inverness was impossible and I decided against making the detour that far north.
To summarize London.
1-Princesse Diana died 11 years ago on August 31. There were a lot of poems, letters, photos and flowers at Kensington Palace.
2-I heard more foreign languages spoken in London than I did English.
3-On most street corners they've written on the ground which direction to look for traffic.
4-Rain sucks. Especially when it's constantly starting and stopping. Just rain and get it over with.
5-Getting a parking ticket when you have out of country plates on your motorcycle is laughable. The ticket only has the plate number. How are they ever going to track you down?
6-The trick to not getting run over crossing streets is to trick your mind into thinking of looking opposite of how it normally does when checking for traffic
7-Taking the "tube" wasn't so bad to get to the Tower of London.
8-The brain gets confused in trying to decipher which way to look for oncoming traffic because the cars are parked in both directions on both sides of the street.
9-Buckingham Palace wasn't that impressive.
10-My feet are killing me after 3 days of walking.
11-O-HI-O's butt was soaking wet from Friday night's rain. Stuffed animals make good sponges.
12-My passport was soaking wet from my drive into London. As was my wallet. I realize that my jacket isn't waterproof and I shouldn't keep those things in my pocket. It's the jacket liner that is waterproof. Live and learn.
That's it. I'm not too sure when I'm going to post again. I'm not too sure which B&B has wi-fi access. But I do promise an update in Edinburgh (Friday) as the hostel does.
