So what's the point of all this?
Why am I doing what I'm doing?
I'm not really seeing the places I'm visiting. I ride for a day. I do a quick tour of wherever I am and then I move on. Then I get tired or get hurt and then I don't see anything. Now! Really! What's the point of it all?
Maybe all I'm really going to do is visit one city in every country(or maybe just drive through a country)   in the world (all 195 "official" countries). That is my goal.  Visit every country in the world. Ten down, one hundred and eighty five to go!   Maybe there's more to it than that? Maybe I haven't told any of you what I'm really doing here because it's a really big secret. Or maybe I'm just insane.
Really? Whom of us can really be considered sane? Those of you who toil away every day at the same job for   35 years? Or those of us who take chances and do things that are considered "out of the ordinary"?
When you've been reading a philosophy book about motorcycle maintenance your train of thoughts start to wander a little. In my case it starts to wander a lot. You can do that when you're riding a motorcycle on the open road. Actually you can do a lot of that when you travel a lot.
Enough about philosophy. My travels. I had a lot of good yesterday and a lot of bad.
Leaving Gothenburg I stopped to take a picture of a castle (or something similar) and met 3 older guys on motorcycles. They were on their way to Norway with a group of about 20 to tour for a few days. We chatted a bit. They all had BMW motorcycles. Similar to mine only newer.
It was cloudy all morning and it cleared up about the time I entered Norway. The fluffy white clouds and blue sky looked awesome next to the Norwegian scenery. There's a lot of water in Norway. Unfortunately there weren't too many places to stop and take pictures so you'll have to come see for yourself. The customs officers let me through without a second glance as I entered Norway. Still no passport stamp. The highway also has a toll. But it's Zero for motorcycles. Awesome!
Then the bad! Here is a copy of an email I sent to Katrine last night.
"Had a great day riding to Oslo. It cleared up after lunch and the countryside is very nice because there's water everywhere. Then things went from bad to worse once I got to Oslo. Stopped at a hotel to see if they had room and at what price. Had put my helmet on the side mirror and when I went to put the bike on the center stand (forgot about the helmet) the helmet went flying and the visor popped off. Nothing damaged, just scratched up. That hotel wanted $250 per night.

Then it was off to the hostel I had at the top of my list. There was construction everywhere and they don't have stop signs here, nor yields. I don't know who's coming from where. I have to make a u-turn on one street because it's closed then when I'm going to   turn on the next street I see a sign that seems like it's a one way. Well the streets are so bad and sloped that I drop the bike as I make a quick stop not to turn. Someone comes to help me ( a young woman who was on a motorcycle) but I have a full tank of gas and the bike is sloping down towards the curb to make it worse. Well, as she was pushing hard to get the bike up, so did I. I knew right away I was at the wrong angle and my back is hurting like hell now.

I did find the address I was looking for (they say it's an apartment hotel) but there were no signs. The GPS said it was another 100 metres so I continued (remember the hotel in Gothenberg the GPS said was there but wasn't?). Then it was around a few blocks to get back as it was a one way. They wanted about $250 for an apartment but said they had a room in a house somewhere else for $80 a night. So that's where I am. There are 8 rooms and the house is situated on a hill overlooking Oslo. It would be awesome if I could move.

I'll be a little stiff in the morning, but other than that will be OK. Don't worry. Highway driving is going great and cars move too slow in towns to ever have anything serious happen."

So! I've been in a lot of pain for the past 24 hours or so. The place I'm staying  at is awesome, though I don't know the other people as they disappear into their rooms. I've said Hi, but they don't reply. I've been reading in the living room and say Hi when I hear them walk in.
Today I went to the Norsk Folk Museum and the Viking Museum. Walking was painful at times. Riding the motorcycle was OK except when I had to put and take the motorcycle off its center stand. My back is slowly loosening up so I believe I'll be alright for my riding tomorrow. There's been a change in plans or since there really is no plan only thoughts about where I'm heading next the where I'm going next will be down the coast of Norway. And since driving down the coast would mean a drive back up it if I want to stay on the roads, then that would mean that I will be taking a ferry back to Denmark. I guess I've seen enough of Sweden for this expedition.
That's about all for now because I could start writing a whole chapter on why I had to come to Oslo and visit the Folk Museum. I read a lot of interesting stuff there that one day will inspire me in the writing of my (other) book.
Think It ! Feel It! Live It!
PS. Katrine sent me an email to tell me my big check came in. Now I only have to wait a few days for it to clear and to get access to the funds. Isn't the Universe awesome! My motorcycle is also awesome! It takes a beating and keeps on running beautifully. I guess I can say the same about my body. Though I think the motorcycle is running better than my body today.
