-When I originally looked at my planning map of Europe I had decided not to go to Oslo and Stockholm as it's a 2000 kms detour. But for whatever reason I'm making it
-My supper at the hotel last night was the best I've had in a long time. The salmon and mashed potatoes were to die for. I also ate the shrimp, which is something I've never done as I never acquired the taste for them. But these were quite good.
-I've started reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". It's a pocket book size philosophy book. From the first 5 chapters it sounds like me writing it. This author thinks like me and even admits that his way of thinking is out of the ordinary. Maybe that's the reason for this Expedition of mine riding through Europe. I will be writing a 21st century update to that book. This book was published in 1974. It's about the philosophical musings and travelogue of the writer as he travels by motorcycle through the U.S Midwest with his young son and another couple. That's about all I know at this time.
-I've chatted with various other people that I've met during my travels
-Bicycle riding in Europe is very popular within the cities as a form of transportation. Copenhagen is extremely well set up for this. Yesterday as I walked around to retrieve my Visa card I watched the mass of people cycling to work or wherever. It was an awesome sight to see. Throughout my walk in town, I found the women cycling so sexy. Just the sight of them. It's not like they were dressed in tight cycling clothing or anything revealing. They were conservatively dressed. They sit quite upright on their seats. Reminded me of Mary Poppins when she went for a bike ride (if my memory serves me right). It just goes to show that it's not the lack of clothing or sexual situation that the brain associates with sex but some other stimuli that it finds pleasant.
-On that topic, I've found the young women in Europe (what I've seen to-date) to be dressed quite conservatively (by North American standards). My theory on that is that with a more liberal attitude about nudity (or so I've heard since I never did make it to the beach to see myself) that the younger generation has no reason to dress provocatively to show their disdain for societal norms. Just think what would happen in North America if society didn't make nudity taboo? There would be no reason for young women to show off their thongs, wear see-through and tight fitting shirts
-I have had numerous doubts about why I am doing this Expedition. Especially when my fibromyalgia symptoms flare up. Riding through Europe on a motorcycle is something someone half my age does or someone with better health and has ridden a motorcycle most of their life does. But maybe that's the point of it all. Doing something you don't think you should be doing and that society in general doesn't expect you to be doing.
-By now my credit rating is definitely in a slide. I've already missed one mortgage payment (for the first time in my life) and the minimum payment on one credit card, haven't paid last month's utility bills, and still don't know how much longer this lack of funds will last (and so more bills don't get paid every day). Next week Louise's car payment comes due (yes, I am paying for my ex-wife's car) and it's unlikely to get paid (which was freaking her out before I left). But I do know how these things work. They don't re-possess houses, or cars, or turn off the utilities for 1 or 2 missed payments. Why should I be worried? The Universe will provide so much income in the future that this "blip" in my credit history will be forgotten quite quickly
-I'm not having any luck at all with this couch surfing. Either everyone I've contacted already has someone there or they are out of town. That's the problem with having a service that's used by travelolics (if that's a word). They're always trying to be travelling so the accommodations they are offering are not available because they are always travelling.
-The couple I met yesterday from Belgium asked if it was lonely travelling by myself. I must say that loneliness hasn't crossed my mind, though it's only been 10 days. Yesterday I chatted with Alexis on MSN and then later with my sister from Winnipeg who's at my house in Calgary dropping off her son who will be staying there when he goes to University. The odd thing was that she was using Katrine's laptop and I was wondering what Katrine was doing on MSN when she should have been at work. Then I found out it was Katrine online. The other day I chatted with Nick. So no matter where I am, I am always in contact with family. Isn't technology awesome!
-Touring Gothenburg. Laundry clean, I decided to head into town...during rush hour. The hostel is about 9 kms from the center of town
-I think that Europeans would be in such awesome shape if they quit smoking. That is, with all the walking and cycling they do.
-The tail end. A Swedish street sign. Farthinder. Translation. Speed Bump. Now, who would have guessed?
