And so the seasons change... its mid March, and spring has truly sprung in Calgary. The formerly permafrost pavements are now clear, ice reduced to a stream in the gutter. The Rockies snow-capped peaks are no longer reflected in the prairies. My thermals have been relegated to the top shelf, but I hope to drag them out again for one more ski trip.

On Sunday I went to the infamous West Edmonton Mall. I spent most of the day (what little time we had between the four hour trip each way on the hideously cumbersome bus) at the Waterpark. Now that the thrill has worn off, perhaps an email from the moment would be better:

It was so much fun! The mall was just a boring old big mall, not that much different to Marion but much bigger, but they have all of these attractions, like flamingos and dolphins and WATERPARK! I spent all day at the water park and it was so much fun! It had about 12 huge waterslides, some with the raft things you sit on that skid across the pool. It was crazy fun. They have a huge wave pool, at the deep end of which people go bungee jumping. I didn't think the waves were all that exciting, being Aussie and all, but some people did. When they blow the horn everyone starts screaming and then the waves come. Once they blew a different horn, I didn't know what it meant, until someone's head plunged into the water! They were bungee jumping right in front of everyone tackling the waves.

The waterslide with the raft things was excellent; we all had races as to who could skim the fastest and furthest. You start off like in cars or something behind this barrier up the top, then you hear a 'whoosh' sound and the barrier lifts and propels your plastic thing out and you vertical drop for about metre (hold on tight!) then it angles out and spits you across the pool.

Then they have the inflatable donut things, which start of all calm then turn into rapids. The best ones though were three of the waterslides. There was a big white one that was a drop for a metre, then level out for a metre, then drop, level, and so on and so forth. So when the flat bit ended and the drop came you actually got propelled into the air because you were going so fast, and then you'd land halfway down the vertical bit and start again! Then there was this blue one that was like a Gravitron... you go down almost vertically for a bit then end up in this huge blue funnel bowl type thing that you just spin and spin around in until you lose momentum, then it spits you out the very bottom and you drop for a bit and end up underwater and have to swim up to the surface. Some people got freaked out because they were dizzy and couldn't find the surface! And then there was the sky screamer, this massive red one that is the biggest vertical drop of them all and just that... a massive, head spinning vertical drop. All the guys wanted to do that one first of course, so we climbed all the stairs and got right to the top and I looked over and got vertigo and was like "there is no way I'm doing that!" It's so steep and high that you have to lie with your arms and ankles crossed otherwise you hurt yourself. If you sat up you'd topple head over heels down. But of course I couldn't go down so I had to do it... it was awful! It was like a falling nightmare... just falling without control for what felt like 20 seconds, powerless.

Midterms are over and finals and term papers are looming. I'm leaving Calgary in little over six weeks! Any chance of homesickness is overcome by the urgency of cramming as much into the short time left that I can. I saw the Flames play the Ottawa Senators last week, which was awesome. The Flames won 4-2. I find myself crashing overnight a little too often in Rez as the parties wear on and my resolve to make it to class in the morning wears off. I'm quite content here; it's going to be hard just up and leaving as soon as I'm starting to settle in.
