When we got off the ship in Nuuk there was a long line of people waiting for the shuttle from the dock to the center of town. We were eventually able to get on a shuttle and grabbed some seats toward the back. The shuttle continued to fill after all the seats had been taken so I nudged Dave and said we should offer up our seats (after all, we were a good 40 years younger than everyone else!). We offered our seats to 2 men standing near us. They said no, we should keep the seats and relax because we work so hard. They then asked what we did, to which I replied we actually did not work on the ship and were passengers, too! Did they want our seats now?! We continued to chat with them throughout the ride (and they never did take out seats).
The shuttle dropped us off in the village, by the water
Outside the tourist shop was the main attraction in Nuuk. A giant mailbox for letters to Santa. On the front of the mailbox were the words "Tommes Naste Gang" which apparently means something like "Empty in December" but to us just looked like Tommy's Nasty Gang, which we've decided we're honorary members of.
We hopped back on the shuttle and took it to the center of town. We went into the post office because we were pretty sure Dave had not received enough postage back in the tourist shop. It was a good thing we went to the post office, too, because he was several dollars short. The post office only took cash, and they only took Danish Krones, so we had to go to the ATM to get the money.
After the post office, we looked at the other buildings in the center of town. There wasn't much--a diner, a grocery store, a few boutiques. We ran into our friends from the shuttle who pointed out the library and told us there was free internet inside. Because internet time was at such a premium on board the ship, I jumped at the chance to check my email without having to rush. Then we walked back down to the water by Santa's mailbox and looked around the village before deciding to take the shuttle back to the ship.
