We sleep in until 7 a.m. As today's ride is so short we set off at 9.a.m. and stop for coffee and blueberry muffins at Zuma's about 15 miles out of town. It's a fabulous coffee shop - don't miss it if you ever come this way!. For the 3rd day in a row the scenery is breath-taking - and this time it is chocolate box pretty. We get great views of the San Juan mountains. There's snow on the top and the trees are turning colour - light green, dark green, red, yellow, rust - it's a feast for the eyes. The road surface is also so good I'm thinking of writing to thank the State Govenor personally as my hands and backside have relief from the vibrating asphalt and rumble strips.
We climb 3,000 ft only to sacrifice it all as we have an 8 mile (8 miles, can you imagine!!) downhill descent into laid-back Durango.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has sent in words of encouragement, emails etc. They mean so much to us. I don't think either of us had any idea how tough this would be - well, David might have as many moons ago he cycled Land's End to John O'Groats in 5 days. He kept schtum.
