Left Santa Rosa and headed back to highway one.  I wanted to take highway 116 which was identified as a scenic highway, which I did.  Really wasn't that great of a scenic drive.  Goes along the Russian River Valley, but there are very few pullouts or places to enjoy the view.  Nice drive but not great.

When I got to Highway 1, my first stop was the Point Arena light house.  This was quite nice.  Got to go up to the top of the light house and see the view which was quite impressive.  In the museum they have the Fresnel lens that has since been replaced with a modern lens and lamp.  The original is quite large and isn't a single glass element but is made up of numerous separate prisms.  Very cool for being designed in the late 1800's.

From there, I wound my way up the coast to Fort Bragg where I had dinner at the North Coast Brewery.  The Red Seal Cask Style Ale was a very good.  The sandwich was also pretty good.

The continued my way up Highway 1 and 101 through the Coastal Redwoods and along the Avenue of the Giants to get up to Eureka and on to Redwood National Park.  Drove through several areas of the park and along the Coastal Scenic Road.  This ended up being a version of taking the Miata off road.  Couple places I wasn't sure about, but it and I made it.  Along the road was able to see out in the ocean where there were several whale.  Could see the spouts from their blowholes.  Camera didn't have enough zoom to get a good image though.  Then went on to Crecent City for the evening, where unfortunately, they can't keep a Microbrew open.

Tomorrow, Oregon looms
