Where I stayed
The day started with a gradual hike up from Les Chapieux 1554 metres to La Ville de Glaciers 1790. The farmhouse picture was taken at this tiny village. Thereafter the hike became strenuous up to Col de la Seigne 2516 metres. This is the border between France and Italy. The magnificent Mont Blance Mountain was a sight to behold on this sunny day. This border was the site of many wars and guardhouses and former customs posts are still to be seen, now as ruins. Standing at the border and staring at Mont Blanc made me want to pinch myself. Its one thing hiking through the Alps, its another being able to almost touch Mont Blanc. We all studied this region at school irrespective of where we lived, South Africa, Canada, Australia, USA,or Europe. A 1.5 hour hike down took us to Riffugio Elisabetta at 2200 metres tucked below the Glaciers De La Lee Blanche and Glacier de Glaciers. I enjoy so much the tranquility of the mountains. Despite their grandeur and might it is for me the most peaceful place on earth.
