After Vegas drove back out into the vast desert landscape and were soon surrounded by those amazing mountains again. It was a very long drive animated by your mom jokes and pee breaks... exciting stuff. We drove for freaking ages and arrived at the gates of Zion national park.

Sadly all of the camp grounds were full and we soon realized that we probably would even be able to go into the part as it was already late afternoon. We back trekked (after re-supplying) and found a camping spot by a beautiful river in a portion of federal land. We set up camp and dug a little pit for a fire (it was pretty cold). We decided to head back to the shop to pick up some wood and more beer... we'd bought this beer called 'Bitch Creek" because it had a sweet name. It tasted like ass. Ryan and I lost a rigged game of rock, scissors, paper and were sent on the run. I decided that considering the quiet little country road it was time for me to take the reigns and jump behind the wheel.. After an initial realization that I pulled onto the wrong side of the road it was all cool. On the way back I made the same mistake in the car park but was fine. When I went to turn off the road toward our campsite I turned too early and into the slip lane on the wrong side of the road and to Ryan's horror drove the further 15 meters up to the correct turn off in the emergency lane. It was slow and no real hazard but as I was about to turn the Cops drove past and my heart skipped a beat. Thankfully they didn't stop and it was fine. It ended my driving career though. They wouldn't let me drive again after that. Pansies.

We chilled out around the fire until we ran out of beer and got rained on - they call this summer. The next morning we packed up in the mud and headed off toward the Grand Canyon. I'm sure Zion was wonderful but we had places to be and deer to chase.

Missed your chance...
Marky Mark! Zion National Park has one of the best hikes ever and you missed it! It is called Angel's Landing and is about a 4 hour round trip. Tough climb but so worth it for the views and the dangerous route that needs to be taken to get right out to the edge.
Oh well... sucked in loser!
