I arrived in the early afternoon and checked into the hostel before taking the bus to the city centre. After eating a year's worth of meat for the last few weeks, I was ready for a salad! I ventured to a cafe highly recommended on Tripadvisor for its use of fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed that nobody could speak English in Austria of all places! I recognized the word "avocado" in the salad section so I figured that would be a fairly safe option. The salad came with romaine lettuce, lots of avocado, some really foul tasting goat cheese, tomatoes, peppers, and a light tangy dressing. Not bad for having no idea what I had ordered. I finished my meal and about half an hour later, I didn't feel so great. I walked around hoping that it would go away but I couldn't stay upright without feeling uncomfortable. I took the bus back to my hostel and attempted to take a nap to try and sleep it off. That didn't work either. In the early evening, I went back into town so that I could get something to eat but I had no appetite at all. I had a banana, went back to the hostel, took a shower and finished watching Schindler's List on my netbook. When I got up to brush my teeth, my gag reflex kicked in when I brushed my tongue and my entire salad came out. I proceeded to vomit one more time and that that was the end of that. Good thing my hostelmates weren't in the room! Of course, I was hungry after that episode and it's impossible for me to fall asleep when I'm hungry so I got absolutely no shuteye that night. So what was my impression of Linz? Not much considering I didn't see anything. For such a clean and proper city, I really didn't expect to forever remember Linz as the city where I got food poisoning.
