I took the Greyhound to my next destination 5.5 hours north:  Agnes Water and the Town of 1770.  It's not a well known backpacker area but it's a good stopover between Fraser Island and Airlie Beach.  There's everything from $17 surf lessons to night diving to scooteroo tours around the area.  This is also the last place you can swim before you hit stinger territory in Queensland.  I joined the Scooteroo tour which is apparently the #5 top rated activity on the East Coast.  You ride these modified choppers around town and all you need is a learner's driving permit!  With little to no traffic in this quiet town, it's a rather safe activity.  After we watched the sunset from the beach, we got ready to hop back on our bikes to ride back to the garage.  As I walked back, I bumped into A (we were on the same Great Ocean Road / Uluru tours) with her friend enjoying a picnic dinner.  Since she was heading south from Cairns and I was heading north from Sydney, we were plannning to meet up at some point but I hadn't heard back from her (those darn undelivered texts!) so I assumed that we would just miss each other.  We had a great time catching up at the hostel.  I'm hoping to meet up with her in Zurich in a few months!  I was hoping to go scuba diving the next day since the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef begins in this area.  Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and thunderstorms were in the forecast.  it rained the entire day and I mean the ENTIRE day.  Everyone stayed at the hostel and just watched movies all day long.  I'm jumping on the Greyhound tonight for the overnight bus to Airlie Beach where I'll be joining a one day trip to the famous Whitsunday Island.

Mr. Sparkle on

I'm intrigued by the prospect of night diving - what's that about? The chopper pictures actually remind me of Vietnam. Seems like you're making the most of a wonderful experience.
