Got picked up the next morning by Stray (the hop-on, hop-off tour bus company) and started the journey along the coast up north to Hahei beach. Unfortunately, due to high tide, we just missed the opportunity to dig holes in the sand to sit in the hot water which comes up from natural springs
. Everyone was quite impressed with the beach but since I just came from Fiji, it was a bit of a yawner. After we arrived in Hahei, I decided to be active and went on a 2 hour hike in my flip flops with a couple of the girls to Cathedral Cove which is one of New Zealand's most beautiful secluded beaches. Apparently it was featured in one of the "Chronicles of Narnia" movies! We made our way back down south this morning to Raglan, one of the world's most famous surf spots. It was raining pretty hard so I opted out of the surf lesson and am now currently sitting in our hostel with the rest of the Stray-ees killing time before dinner. Life could be worse :P
Pictures will have to come later. Seems like most of NZ likes to charge PER MB of data. I love you guys but not enough to spend $10 uploading pictures everyday.
Arrived in Auckland on Valentine's Day. It was very romantic. Me, myself and I. :) I stayed in a small hostel in the posh Ponsonby area (similar to Kits) and enjoyed a nice stroll through the neighborhood in the 28 degree weather. Sure beats the rain in Vancouver! The city itself is very similar to back home. Even the airport has the same color scheme! One tip: don't try to bring any food that is Chinesey into NZ or you will get fined or jailed. Even Pei Pa Koh (magical cough syrup) is FORBADEN! The Kiwis are very protective of their country! They even inspect any soil/dirt on your shoes to make sure that you're not bringing in any foreign goodness.
