Festive town south of Ireland

We all arrived in Cork mid afternoon, got off the bus to head straight for the 'tourist info' place to search for somewhere to stay.  Straight away I liked the look of Cork.  It was a very colourful place which seemed it will have alot of character when it gets dark and liven's up a bit...  Well we finally found a place to stay after ringing several other hostels that were full booked.  (There's not many hostels in this town).  So we picked our over packed heavy backpacks up and started walking off to find our hostel.  When we found it, it was just across the main river running through cork, heading up the slope on the side of the hill.  We were in a 4 dorm room for a night or two, then migrating to a 6 dorm room after (in the same hostel).  So we finally got to unload all our gear and relax!

After a couple of hours rest and a quick kip (aussie slang for short sleep).  We got up and went to explore more of the town!  It was very intersting actually, the town did have alot of character & fascinating little side streets everywhere.  Definatly had a few things to do here :-)  Oh and yeah it had ALOT of pubs!  Well after walking around, doing a bit of shopping, and me and matty beind side tracked in one of those hobbie shops we decided its time to satisfy our tummy's and grab something to eat.  Our eyes strayed around after exited the shopping mall and right infront of us a big sign saying "Newport Cafe".  Inside the Cafe was pretty groovy!  It was fully decked out with speccy lights everywhere, and yet again serving up to awesome Irish expectations - there were 15 different beers on tap again :-P  There was this elevator which had UFO type lights on the bottom of it, which was going up and down in the middle of the Cafe that looked awesome!  (like a ufo going pu and down).  Matty and I ordered 2 of these bacon burgers on the menu, which when we sunk our teeth into, we realised we had come across something unique and special here...  These were clearly and outstandingly the best burgers we've ever had in our lives!  Seriously so unbelievably yummy :-)  From this we got stuck into a few of the local brew's & got in the mood for some drinkies.

cork 02 reflections

After a bit of a walk around to suss out what its like at night time with Cork, we decided to stop off at the bottle-shop to get a bottle of Johnnie Walker, some beers and the girls got some wine.  We headed back to the hostel & started drinking ourselves silly.  Haha, funny thing - we didnt exactly have a fridge to cool our drinks in, but because were in Ireland, and its so bloody cold at night, we had a window seal on an angle.  Not a big window seal, so we managed to perfect to open the window just enough to fit the bottle of johnnie & coke out, but still just have enough room to rest them on the window seal to keep them cold.  Haha, but it was on such an angle so we had to put it down so carefully or it'd fall of down 2 stories :-P  Hahaha!  The night ended up quite a big one, with the girls eventually going to sleep, but matty and myself continueing on down in the kitchen drinking and running a muck, constantly getting told off by this French guy that kept moving us from one room to another saying we were making too much noise?  Clearly not, as there was no dorm anywhere near us!  Ended up meeting this other drunk Aussie at 3am downstair's in the hostel, he was from Seacliff, South Australia (which is literally the very next suburb from where we live back home)!  So we offered him some Johnnie & had a few laugh's!  However 5am hit and we finally had to call it quits and head to bed...
