The night was falling, so Danielle and i went for a walk down to the bottle shop in La Rambla, which we'd seen earlier. Well it was shut so we went next door to the supermarket! Good idea, as the booze is so bloody cheap in these things. I bought a bottle of Johny Walker Red for 9 Euro's! Which is a bloody bargain when comparing it to australian prices where it's around $30 (equivelant to 19 euro). Funny thing too is, that i bumped into Carly, which i was drinking wine with in France - the Nice hostel (she was the nice canadian girl), so we chatted in there for a while before saying goodbye!
Went back to the hostel and met a few more people, and got a start on the bottle Johnny :o) We pretty much all sat around in this kitchen area, which was really cool. It had a wooden table one side with a fridge an armlength away. The otherside had this kitchen and bar fridge in a cupboard type of thing - it does the job! The other area was a couch and table area people tended to go in there for reading and playing some musical instruments and to get away from us noisey crew hahaha! Both rooms had a balcony, and there was this computer there everyone uploaded their iPOD music onto, so we got music of choice, which is a rarety your allowed to do that. Hours of chating and music and laughing with everyone we decided to whip out the cards. I made friends with Simon from Adelaide and this girl from canada (not the same one as before), that has travelling for literally years. I love meeting people this like, they have so many interesting stories to tell. That noisey yank i said before, was noisey but actually a really nice bloke haha! There was another canadian bloke which moved to spain with his girlfriend and broke up 7 days later after buying an appartment. James, poor bloke - he was so kind. This Israley girl i got chatting to which i can NEVER seem to remember her name, she was really cool and told me alot about her 'humid' country. We started playing these card games and got absolutely blind (drunk). Were up till 3am playing, and was so funny hearing this canadian girl talk about her traveling days in Shanghai, China - gotta go there one day
Next morning i woke up to find i had downed the entire bottle of Johnny. - No wonder why i'm feeling so shithouse. I got up at 11:30! All we did that day was walk to the beach, which was not the best as the sand seemed more like mud than sand and was literally brown. But it was a beach non the less and the sun was shining quite bright with hardly any clouds in the sky once again. But bloody hell, just like the Greek Islands, there were so many naked people just walking around with nothing on. We were saying the night before (simon and me), "just another boob!" as we're so used to boobs now. (Back in Australia, women dont really get naked on the beaches, sometimes in Queensland, but its VERY rare to see this on a public beach). Continue on walking, we went right down the entire Barcelona coast to this huge glittering fish like thing, and chilled there for a while as the area looked really relaxed with so many palm trees everywhere. Then walked back to the harbour area to look at a few of the markets layed out in the street, and lap up more of Barcelona's festive and alive atmosphere, and once more to the La Rambla to get some souvineirs. I ended up getting a shot glass with a bull on it, and two bottle openeers and a shirt.
Dusk started falling on this awesome relaxing day so we headed back to the hostel to get stuck into this bolognase sauce with pasta! MMM!!! Also got an awesome purchase of 12 beers for only 6 Euro! HAHA Such a bargain! Some of the people had left to head onto the next country, so me, simon, danielle & Kate (canadian girl) all went to this random guy's house that simon some how knew and chilled in his apartment for a while and met another 2 guys and 3 girls and drank with them. We eventually called a taxi to 'Bikini' night club. They wouldn't let us in as its some really popular club and you needed to be on the 'list' to get in... This was annoying, so we waited for this nick guy who apparently knew the manager and could pull some strings to get us in... And he definatly came through with the goods, as he got all 8 of us in, and us backpackers didn't exactly look the neatest (as we're backpacking) haha! Bikini was a Scandinavian hang out, so the entire club was filled with these really fit looking long blonde girls. Everyone hears these rumors that scandinavian girls are really 'good looking', but this was the first time i had whitnessed it :o) Rumors must be true haha! Once in there it was straight to the bar, and over all the noise it was pointless using English to order a drink, so the most usefull Spanish i learnt was "une cevazar porfavor", which means "one beer please"
The next morning was dodgy but we managed to get up and said our goodbyes to everyone and the Argentinian lady working as she's simply the nicest lady i've ever met... This lady has been through the depression in recent years in Argentina when the entire country become bankrupt and everyone lost everything. She managed to escape and build a life for herself here. Her stories of herself and when she returned to whitness the destruction of the economy and people's faith will remain with me forever and are very touching. I'll miss her, and i'll definatly be recommending this hotel to everyone thats going to Barcelona!
The city is huge and pretty. Most of i'd say it has an "alive" and "festive" feel to it. I need to come back and stay for longer next time. The people we met here were fabulous! It deifnatly made the time so much more fun. The language sounds great and i'll definatly be learning Latin American when i return home to Oz. The weather and character again of this city just stands out so much. The night life is amazing and constantly on the go no matter what time of night. I'll definatly be back to Barcelona one time in the future, but for now, we're heading off to Seville.
