After saying goodbye to Rome we caught the train to La Spezia which is the little town which you have to head to first before going to CInque Terre. As we just rocked up on the weekend again without anywhere to stay (which is typical now), we had to get on the blower (aussie term for phone) and call up a few places in different villages to see if their free. So after a few expensive phone calls we found a place at Riomagorie, so off we went. Once the train arrived at our little village, we didn't actually realise as half the bloody train was still in the tunnel! hahaha luckily some older bloke over heard our conversation of where we were going as he told us we need to quickly get off here... It took us some wondering and another 1 or 2 phone calls to figure out where the hell to go - but we found it. Had to walk up so many steep and skinny steps inbetween all these buildings to get to it, but was a cool little place with a real cabin feeling. The surroundings are just unbelievable! This town has all white, cream, yellow and orange buildings all with green window shutters and doors. The village is really small with just 1 main street right through the middle and the rest of the houses in the village going up the side of the mountains. We walked up to some high point and watched the sunset from the top of a cliff. This has to be one of the most beautiful sunsets i've ever seen. The beautiful green forests surrounding the cliff's in the distance, with the orange sky and a huge yellow ball slowly settling down into a crystal smooth sea with a perfect reflection. We had a yarn with this scotish couple we met doing the same thing. There were dodgy birds dropping huge nuts directly over me, which would of bloody hurt if i got it. I reckon they were trying to aim for us! That night we had an expensive dinner... 56 EURO!!! eeek! whoops. I had a mixed plate of seafood - fish, lobster and shrimp. Still whole - haha! Had to chop off the head and tail and skin it all myself. Was beautiful wondering around this pretty little town however, a long day calls for a good nights rest. Hope the rest are as beautiful as this one :o)
