Yesterday, as we drove along the Columbia River Gorge we left the trees behind and the mountains became various shades of green and grey where they were covered in lichen and moss. The scenery was lovely, forever changing, and we passed three more of the six dams which are located on the river. As we approached Umitilla where we crossed over into Washington state the land became very flat, and remained that way until just before we arrived at Cheney. Very different once again. We even saw some cowboys rounding up some cattle.
Today we visited Spokane to see the Spokane Falls on the river. Unfortunately, despite the forecast for sun, we have heavy rain, but we still walked around the Riverfront Park to look at the falls. The power of the water was amazing. Next we drove around the extensive rail yards, but it was too wet for Cliff to get out of the truck and watch trains.
Our campsite has not one, but two, rail tracks alongside it and Cliff was able to sit and watch the trains go by for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. I really must try and pick better campsites!
