At 4:30 this morning we woke to the sound of rain.  After a couple of hours it eventually stopped and we dashed around packing up so that we could get on the move.  We needed to get away from the Gulf area today as some severe weather has been forecast for the weekend.

We were soon on our way, and every mile heading north saw the weather improve; it has been lovely and sunny.  It was not long before we crossed the border into Alabama, and at Troy we spotted the Pioneer Museum of Alabama - definitely a place we needed to stop.  Then further along the road we saw bison!

As soon as we crossed into Alabama we started noticing signs along the roadside called 'historic markers'.  Many of them are on the main highway, and it is impossible to stop, but we found a few on the backroads going to the RV site.  Cliff decided it was a good idea for me to get out and take photos. I suspect we will see many more of these historic markers on our travels through Alabama.- but next time he gets to tramp through the bog for photos!!

We eventually managed to find our campsite, despite the lack of signs - thank goodness for the GPS and my iPad - and got set up. As usual rain is forecast for tomorrow.
