25 June 2009: The day was a little overcast at first, so we decided to go for a drive and found our way to Mont de Marsan which is the 'capital' of the Landes departement.
It was a nice town - not particularly historic but with some interesting old buildings dating back as far as the 12th century.

The streets were very colourful with flowers and dotted with bronze sculptures, and large banners of women who appear to be flamenco dancers! The was a bull fighting arena - which is part of basque life - so maybe the dancing is all part of it too and not especially Spanish as I imagine it.

The local church of St Mary Magdelene had a large and beautiful mosaic showing scenes from the passion behind the main altar. As in most French churches it also had spectacular glass.

27 June 2009: Dax
Visited the local town of Dax - renowned for it's thermal pools and baths. The hot spring delivers some incredible amount of water every minute.

We're staying at a guesthouse called La Moulin de Lassalle - very nice.
