Philly and I had one of the craziest experiences we have ever had on this day.

Although we have another entry of temples, there was one that we were saving for last because it was supposed to be amazing.  It is called the Jade Emporer Temple, and it is very hard to find.  As a matter of fact, we had looked for it one other time but got lost and ended up in another temple a few bolcks away.

Anyway, we found the temple, and indeed it had jade colored roof tiles and a very nice garden in front that was peaceful.  One of the main attractions of the temple is that it has a turtle pond.  There are so many types of turtles in the pond and some are soft shelled and some are a white color.  It was really cool.  The turtles here are protected and to see turtles is rather rather here.  They also represent good luck and fortune, so people come to see them.

We also found a little fireplace that burned fake money, and it turned out to be a pretty good backdrop for some photos.  It was a very neat place to and we were glad we finally found it.

We had noticed that the sky was getting a bit dark so we wanted to hit the road.  In this city, when it rains, it rains hard, and since we were in the rainy season, we didn't want to get caught in in because the streets flood and traffic gets hectic.  So we left the temple, took a right hand turn and saw just how dark the sky really was.  As I said to Philly, "I don't think we are going to make it far before the rain.", a huge crack of lightning and thunder happened, and then HUGE drops of rain started falling.

We were going about 20 miles an hour in traffic, and literally, the road cleared like the parting of a sea as the rain drops started.  I just followed the crowd and drove the motorbike up onto the sidewalk and parked underneath an overhang.  The sidewalk was full of motorbikes and people and the street had no traffic.  As we got under the overhang, the skies opened up and we witnessed the heaviest rain we have ever seen.

We were standing in an open stall and some guy was just relaxing on a bamboo lawn chair.  He looked at us, got up, and offered us a couple of chairs.  Then he just went back and sat down.  He was smiliing at us because of our amazed reaction ot the rain.

Normally, the rain lasts for about 20-30 minutes, but this one was to last over 45 minutes.  The streets were flooded within 10 minutes, and the whole street turned into a flowing river.  It was absolutley crazy to see the motorbikes come by in the rain.  It's hard to describe what we were seeing.

Now, Phil and I didn't have rain ponchos with us, so we thought we'd just ride it out.  The guy running the shop didn't seem to care that we were in his business, so we decided to buy a couple of beers.  Philly ran through the rain to a store right next to our squatting place and got a couple of cans of Tiger beer.  The guy thought it was pretty funny.  We had one and the rain had not stopped, so we decided to get a couple more. This time I thought we should offer our host a beer, so in my best hand sign language, I offered him a beer.  He said no, so I bought him a Coke instead and he was really happy about that.

We had a great time there watching the rain, looking at this guy looking at us, but not saying anything.

Once the rain lightened up, we decided it was time to head out, and that's when Phil noticed that the website of this place had "law" in it.  Also, while we were there, he had a consultation with some lady that came in.  So we figured out that the guy, and now another guy had come in, were lawyers.  It was pretty funny.

Before we left we got a picture with the lawyers and they told us that they wanted us to return and see them again sometime.  They were so nice and and smiley, and I think they sort of enjoyed the novelty of having a couple of foriegners sitting in there office drinking beer.  It probably made as good of a story for them as it does for us.  We have decided that we will go back and see them again with a couple of Cokes.
