This week was a 3 day week!
On Thursday we took grades 5-9 on a field trip to a place called El Cajon, which is a city based around a huge dam that provides electricity for a good portion of Honduras. It was in a beautiful area with grass, pine trees, and mountains. The lake is one of only a few in Honduras so the kids were really excited about seeing it. It reminded me of how kids in the Midwest react to seeing the ocean for the first time in the States.
We toured the dam and got to go into the underground power plant and watch the turbines and all of the machinery in action. It was very interesting, even though I could not understand the tour in Spanish. Afterwards we went to the town swimming pool. It was huge and chlorinated! True paradise. We had a great meal at the cafeteria and then loaded up the bus.
The volunteers were ditched part way home to go off on a little weekend vacation... Check out my blog about D&Ds.
