I feel much better since my last entry! I am actually surprised that it took me 7 weeks to get sick... I figured I would have more problems at the beginning but I have been as healthy as ever. Plus, I did not have to battle the cold & flu season that usually accompanies January and Februray in the States.
This weekend I decided to try to whip the boys into shape. I am living in a bachelor pad with four guys, me being the only girl! Instead of me cleaning this whopping house all by myself, I made a chore list so that everyone could help at their own pace, as long as it was done by the end of the weekend. My days of being a cleaning lady has really paid off because our house is immaculate! It is so nice to have a clean place to live! The dust is already settling, but regardless, it is tidy and sanitary in all of the important places like the kitchen and bathrooms. Plus, the greatest thing happened- we braved the task of opening our kitchen cabinets, which no one had ever thought to do before, and found out that we have owned a functioning toaster oven this whole time!!! I have also been using my stereotypical female role to make a little cash by doing the boys´ laundry! They hate using the washboard and so I have already made $20, which goes a long way in Cofradia! I think I will take over their laundry full time. They are definately the older brothers I never had.
On Sunday I went to the mountains in the back of a pick-up with Mel, Toby, Anne, Adrienne, Chad, and Katherin´s (the girl I tutor) whole family. (Mary {Katherine´s mom}, & Digna are two of seven kids and they all love to hang out so their family is a little confusing, especially for blogging purposes.) We went up to one of their other sister´s house to spend the day. We brought about 15 people between the two pickups and the drive there entailed us driving through a small river and several shallow creeks. At one point the truck ahead of us got stuck going up a giant rutted hill so a few people had to get out to lighten up the load a little. Anyway, the property was awesome! There was a big soccer field and a nice, ice cold swimming pool with a water slide! We had lunch and snacks all day. We also went creek walking with some of the kids. It was a very enjoyable day. One of Mary´s sisters bought me a bracelet, earrings, and necklace as a little gift! They are so generous!
Today was no ordinary Monday- "Baby" (my 3 year old kindergarten terror) had his first absentee today... it was wonderful! Also, as the reigning female of Casa de Gringos, I decided that we are going to start eating dinner together more as a family. On Mondays, Gerardo and I will buy the food, cook, and clean up, and on Wednesday´s Alex and Nathan will do the same (Chad is a vegetarian so he is not participating). Tonight I made an awesome pot of homemade spaghetti with toasted garlic bread... yum! The texture of toast is priceless after not having an oven for two months.
