the down time to write a little bit about mz time here in cologne. on
a side note, the kezboards here in europe have the ys in a different
spot than we do. i am not going to edit it. it takes too long =]
So as i mentioned in mz last blog, i arrived in cologne a daz earlz.
i stazed in the black sheep hostel and met some cool guzs. one local
one from canada. we ended up going out to eat in the student section
right next to mz hostel. The student section is where the universitz
is and there is all kinds of bars and cheaper priced foods down there
This is a really cool scene down here at the university area. Cool people, and this is where they are
going to be shutting down the streets and showing the game in every
bar and even setting up projectors in the street. Germany is playing
Greece in the quarterfinals. it’s a BIG game around here. I extended
my stay in cologne one extra day to be able to go party and experience
the scene down there. hope Germany wins! I think I might even buy a t-shirt and Germany hat and really get into it. ha!
Anyway, my stay here in cologne has been a rainy one. lots of
drizzle and thunderstorms. I have had a chance to see a lot of
things though and get a lot done on the side as well. it feels good to
be able to do that. overall this 4 days is the longest I have stayed
in one spot other than Oslo. it’s good to chill for a while. The
things I saw were the cologne cathedral (hiked the 509 steps ! to the
t op), a German\ roman artifact museum. it held a ton of statues
and artifacts that were dug up in cologne that dated back to the
ancient roman empire in the first centre so cool
ELDE house which was an old prison that was used by the Gestapo to
torture and kill people in ww2. amazing museum btw. incredible the
stories were from this house and it was a veers thorough museum in
regards to ww2 history and cologne. really liked this one. Also
hiked across the bridge hohenzollernbridge. it’s the bridge that
crosses the Rhine river. only pedestrian and train traffic is allowed
across. on this bridge are over a million pad locks that people have
put there to symbolize their love and then thrown the key into the
river. kind of crazy to see all of the locks. check out the pics
Today I am not sightseeing. I got a haircut, went and bought some
shorts, dealing w ACSM and running around town to fax something to
them (pains in my ass), and trying to figure out the next bit of my
trip. it seems all of the small little German towns that I was planning on staying don’t have any hostels that are free. so, I have to figure out where I am going here over the next 4 days before I to Munich.
Well, I might post another blog from cologne with the details and some
pics on the game tonight!
Miss everyone! Hope all is well!
