So....Dont you love it when you have been on vacation for 5 days and it literally feels like it has been 3 weeks. Uh yeah. I cant even describe how perfect and awesome it has been to be up in some incredible scenery, hiking to my little hearts content. The hiking around here is absolutely incredible. Even though I go hours without seeing anyone on the trail, I have run into some incredibly cool and friendly people up here on the trails. Ouray has easily moved to my all time favorite hiking destination. With another week left, I cant wait to see what else there is! The snow levels have been iffy. I am just winging the hikes and seeing if I can get through or not. Most of the time I am good. I ran into hip deep snow drifts on one of my hikes. I am going to bring my snow shoes back toward the end of next week to get up to where I wanna go damn it! :) Usually this time of may, there is no way you can do any hiking around here. Due to some warm temps and some lower snow amounts this year, I have really lucked out. anyway....
My days have consisted of me cooking in my cabin, heading out for my hike, hitting the hot springs, making dinner, and going to bed (i have been getting 11 hours a sleep a night!)

Here is the first round of trails that I have done so far and some pics to go with it.....

Day 1- Perimeter trail of Ouray- 4 mile hike- 2 hours hiking-
-Highlights: waterfalls, deer, incredible views of Ouray.
Scenic drive to Owl Creek pass-2 hours round trip from Ouray
-Highlights: incredible panoramic views of the San Juans, Ate lunch in the meadow where they filmed the final gun battle in tru grit
Day 2- Ice lake- 7 miles hike- 3.5 hours of hiking
-Highlights- waterfalls, alpine tundra, wildflowers, glacier lakes, met a friend (Gregg) on the trail. We hit it off and I stopped by his campsite for a beer when I finished up the hike. We might meet up for a hike later next week!
Day 3 Blue Lakes 7 mile hike - 3.5 hours of hiking
-Well I didnt actually make the lakes. Backpacker magazine ranks this hike in the top 2 scenic hikes in north america. I was stopped 15 min from the lakes due to snow. I am determined to get up there. I am coming back later next week w/ snow shoes. I will get there! The scenery on the trail was spectacular.

Day 4 Bear Creek Trail- Grizzley Bear and Yellow Jacket Mines. 9 miles, 4 hours of hiking
-This trail easily is in my top 3 fav hikes of all time. Sheer cliffs on the side of the trail to 2,000 below added an element of danger that was cool. Literally, you slip, you will go to the bottom. Better not be afraid of heights on this one. Scenery was indescribable. Mountain panoramas, wild flowers, cliffs, rivers, waterfalls, mines, old abandoned buildings, and nobody else out there!

Enjoy the pictures~! (ps. I think my dog is going to sleep for years after this trip)

Looks like a hiker's paradise :) I'm happy that you're soaking it all in! Poor Kitty deserves a day off or she is going to boycott your next expedition. Be safe and enjoy! <3
