God's creations never cease to amaze and the Grand Canyon is certainly one of the most grand creations on earth!
Our day began with a 5:30 am pick up at our lodge by a guide who looked and sounded exactly like our friend, Bobby Case! "Bobby" was also a self-proclaimed story teller who told us the story of how the Wild West was tamed by Fred Harvey. If you would like to hear "The Rest of the Story" you will either have to take the same tour or simply try google!
Bobby drove us to the airport where we boarded a Twin Otter Vista Liner for a 50 minute flight over the Grand Canyon! It was absolutely spectacular
We landed in Page, AZ next to Lake Powell. There we boarded a 4-wheel drive truck and went on a 20 minute drive through sand dunes to Antelope Canyon. This is a canyon that has been carved in sandstone by continuos flash floods. The colors inside the canyon are unbelievable!
After touring the canyon we went back through the sand dunes and then boarded a bus for the drive to the Glen Canyon Dam. This is the dam that created Lake Powell. We walked down to the base of the dam where we boarded a raft to begin our tour inside Glen Canyon.
It was awesome, spectacular, awe-inspiring,, relaxing, cool, cold, refreshing and as Darby says "it was great!"
We swam in the 47 degree water (well, we all jumped in - Derek over 10 times); we drank from a seep hole; saw wild horses, petroglyphs; ran some rapids; floated and took over 500 pictures!
What a day!
But wait, we ended the day with a great dinner and a show as Mother Nature gave us another thunderstorm complete with spectacular lightning over the canyon.
Needless to say we are exhausted and looking forward to a good night sleep. Tomorrow we will hike down the Bright Angel trail and then on to Vegas!
