Other than sleeping, and eating and drinking vast quantities of water, plus a few caipirinhas chucked in there, we´ve actaully been doing some of the kind of things that tourists really should be doing, believe it or not.

First few few days, solid beach times mate. Wasn´t a blob of cotton wool in the sky.  Sadly as all good things come to an end, the rain started, and my did it start, but that didn´t stop us from having fun. Oh no. Cue incredible football match at the maracana stadium where we made up words for the portuguese football chants and ate ´globos´ (to be tried and not described!) for the very first time. The hippi-marche was a bit of a blast. A romantic stroll in the pretty jardin botanico, and an even more romantic ride in a pedalo that was shaped like a swan. Yes, you got it, a swan pedalo. Wow. It would have been eeeven more romantic if we´d have been jammy enough and blagged ourselves the duck with the easter bonnet on.  A bone-rattling ride in an old-fashioned tram, which felt like it was about to break down at any minute and the hill-starts weren´t too grand either. We were also pretty up for free entry to a boat party which had free drinks rolling till 12. Danced with a bit of motion sickness into the early hours, and then topped it off wistfully gazing into the sunrise over Ipanema beach. We´ve had our only truly spiritual cultural experience in the form of a Favela tour, the shanty towns of Rio, where we were whisked up the mountain by insane moto-taxis, and walked back through the Favela amongst litter and sewage ridden pathways, thick electricity cables and drainpipes. On a lighter note, we ended the day boogy-ing it on down to some sweet tunes at a silent disco. The drunken laryness of fellow partiers when you took your headphones off made for pure comedy value.
