Where I stayed
We parked overnight at a public park in Union, which was a little odd at first because every single peewee league of football in the entire surrounding area was having their football practice around us as we parked and ate dinner. Lots of gawkers as we hooked up to electric, so we just waved and went inside. The park cleared once the sun went down, so we had the whole thing to ourselves.
Our sponsors kept us busy the next day...John did a radio interview with a few representatives from the sponsor first thing in the morning. The DJ was fantastic...she was funny and interesting and really led a great discussion between all five guests
After that, John did a daycare and then we spent most of the rest of the day visiting each of the public schools. Each school had a contest where kids had to guess how many popcorn kernels were in a large bowl and the winners received donated circus tickets, gift certificates to locally owned The Pasta House, and a photograph with a circus clown! ;) There were some really nice moments when kids were told they won; a handful of them said they'd never been to the circus and were really excited to go for the first time.
Lunch was at The Pasta House, which I HIGHLY recommend to all circus folk when they get into town. This place makes UNBELIEVABLE pasta dishes for a very reasonable price. I suggest getting the Chicken Flamingo (grilled chicken & pasta with a white, buttery, garlicky sauce on it...YUM).
Our main contacts with the sponsor, Earlaine and Ann, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home while we were in town. Ann even found an RV park for us to stay in that evening and Earlaine bought us lunch, along with water & coffee halfway through the day.
And somehow it's the weekend again...how does this happen?! I seriously blinked once and it's the weekend again. In the next couple of days, we finish up replacing the kitchen faucet, we clean, and we revel in finally completing the entire plumbing project started a few weeks ago. I think we'll celebrate by taking showers and using the kitchen sink...huzzah!
