We spent a restful night in the parking lot of a preschool and across the street from Walmart (or what we like to call "Our Restroom That We Don't Have to Worry About Dumping"). When we got there, our sponsor contact, Bob, and his wife (I forgot her name, sadly) invited us out to dinner with them. They took us to a local diner, saying it wasn’t anything fancy, but it was good food. What was funny is that it was the fanciest spread of food we’ve ever seen at a diner and wow, was it good! John got crab-stuffed tilapia and I ordered their signature dish, chicken pot pie (which was actually chicken & dumplings, but they call it pot pie out here). The side dish was grilled zucchini, which was so excellent I could have eaten that as my main dish! We had wonderful conversation over wonderful food and it ended the night perfectly.

This morning was an early one: 5am alarm because we were offered two spots at the Rotary Club’s breakfast meeting this morning at 7:00a (we can never say no to a free breakfast offering!). When we got there with Bob, the appearance of a clown to their meeting gave everyone a hearty laugh, especially the two guest ministers who were delivering an address to the club…hahaha. The one minister said this was the first time he’s ever been interrupted by a circus clown. Thankfully he was laughing while saying it. J

After breakfast, Bob needed to run a quick errand so Paul, another Rotary Club member, drove us to the first school, Hopewell School. The two kids from the family we camped near this past weekend go to school there, so we were hoping we’d see them, but no go unfortunately. John did his program in the gym and he was well-received. The kids were a bit rambunctious, but they were excited and everyone wanted to shake his hand or give him a high-five as they left.

We met up with Bob and headed downtown to drop some flyers off. One of the places was a thrift store, so we perused the clothing to see if we could quickly come up with anything for John’s summer agent suit, to no avail. It’s getting mighty hot in his suit, so hopefully we can find something soon.

We drove back to the preschool we were parked at after that and did a program for those kids too. Today’s a two town day, so we weren’t able to spend as much time with them as we were hoping for, but the kids still had a great time and the preschool staff, besides being awesome about letting us park there overnight and all morning, were supportive and laughing through everything.

We made a quick drive to Clayton and parked at the school that we’re visiting this afternoon. It’s proving to be a hot one today, so it’s nice to have a little break mid-day.
