Where I stayed
Ali Ghan Campground
The construction going into the downtown area of Cumberland is a bit of a mess right now, so we hung out in a one lane construction zone with no merging area for anyone wanting to join us on the highway. Once we got a hold of the sponsor, we had our directions and managed to get out of the downtown area in one piece. The circus' sponsor this time around is the Ali Ghan Shriners and they have their own campground behind their Shrine Club, so they'd arranged for us to stay there that night, free of charge. Also, they were having a dinner that night, which our sponsor invited us to on his dime, so we had the chance to eat a delicious home-cooked meal and hang out with our sponsor ahead of time and get to know him
Greg, the Shrine representative who drove us around, met up with us at the campground, made sure we were situated and then drove us up to the club for the dinner. We felt terribly under-dressed, but no one made a fuss and instead, made us feel right at home. We told many stories about our adventures so far, answered questions about the Kelly Miller Circus to the best of our abilities, and enjoyed meeting a lot of wonderful folks who are passionate about their focus on children's hospitals.
I couldn't keep my eyes open past 8pm, so Greg drove us back to our RV and we went almost straight to bed. We knew the morning would come quickly...
And it did. Haha. Greg came by to pick us up and we were off. Our first stop was a radio station that did a 10 minute spot with John. The Shriners had arranged for the spot to be played every day for the next two weeks, so no one in this area can complain that they didn't hear anything about the circus coming to town!
After that, we visited a number of the ticket sellers and thanked them profusely for their support of the circus
Greg, upon hearing that we needed to get to a store that sells RV supplies, declared he would drive us to a store because it'd be easier for him to drive us then us to drive ourselves. We thanked him profusely and he brushed it off, saying that he used to own an RV and RV owners take care of each other. :) We were able to get stocked up again, thanks to him.
Unfortunately, we discovered this week that John's paycheck was lost in the mail. It never arrived at the bank and since the circus has to wait a full week before stopping payment on it and reissuing it, we've had to be careful with our money. Definitely a downer this week, but at least it's being taken care of.
After the day ended, Greg brought us back to our RV and wished us well...he said he may be able to arrange for us to stay at the campground again this weekend, if we wanted, so we're excited to have that option. Weekends are a bit weird, especially when we don't know anyone in the area. We're very grateful for the offer!
