We took a bus to Lovina on December 28 and made our way to a guesthouse called Sartaya that was recommended by a couple we met in Ubud. The bungalows were really nice but we were quite a ways out of Lovina. It was about 20 minutes to walk into the town.

We booked a snorkelling day with the guesthouse owners which included a dolphin spotting boat trip in the morning. The dolphin spotting was funny because there were about 10 boats on the water and all they did was chase the dolphins. By the time we got to where someone had seen a dolphin, it was gone. It was quite comical.

The snorkeling trip was fun - we drove for a few hours and then took a boat out to an island. The fish were quite curious so we had a lot of interaction with the underwater wildlife. There was one big fish that wasn't so friendly though - he kept charging at us. We had lunch on the beach but because it was a rice dish that had cooled down (with seafood and egg), we probably should have thought twice about eating it. We paid for it for the next three days with some pretty wicked food poisoning.

The end of 2003 and beginning of 2004 was unfortunately memorable for the wrong reasons. We were so sick for three days and could hardly get out of bed. We made it into Lovina to have a quick New Years Eve dinner - the first meal in over two days. But it didn't take long before we were back in bed moaning and groaning.

Once we felt better we had a few days in Lovina to relax on the beach and hang out in the town. We found a nice restaurant called the Bali Apik that had nice meals and everything was well cooked!

We'll head back to Kuta for a couple of days and then off to Singapore.
