Just spent 3 nights in KL and was fantastic!

Flew in for 530am and slept all day! Then had some lovely Chinese. Smoked some shisha in an Arabian bar on the first night, and generally got the feel.

KL is a really interesting mix of really classy shops, as well as Western ones like Topshop and Toni and Guy and Malaysian local businesses. Got a Macdonald's on every corner tho, but do a meal for 1 pound so can't disagree! You take your life in your hands crossing roads, everywhere is six lane traffic and the crossings refuse to work!

Visited Petronas Towers. Went up to the Sky Bridge from which you got a view of the city. Was free but nothing exciting, most of the tour comprised of propaganda for Petronas oil! Had a nasty cold though, so was pretty miserable for the morning!

After wandering around for a while and getting lost often, went to the KL tower. Didn't go up, but nearby was a patch of jungle. Got a free tour for an hour from a local who was fasntastic! He managed to calm me down about the possibility of snakes, scorpians, hornets, ants and mosquitos, saying I watch too much Hollywood, and that I must believe there are giant Anacondas who only go after Jennifer Lopez!!! Saw monkeys and also got eaten alive by mozzys. But so worth it. Later went to a Buddhist temple which was so colourful and fascinating and was complete with its own prostrating monk!

Evening got more food, and hung out with the people in the hostel, such nice people, but so experienced in travel! Nicole indulged in some ring of fire, but unfortunately my cold wasn't up to it!

On last day moved hostels (both of which were lovely, air conditioning which did not expect!) and went to Lake Gardens where we fed deer and got more bitten by mozzys! Met a brilliant British couple who were equally as lost as us trying to leave. Met up later to see the Tennis in a ridiculously over-priced Irish bar. (5 pound for beer!!) I wasn't as interested in Murray as much as the Old disgusting Western men buying drinks and flirting with young glamorous Thai women, who were more than willing to accept the attention! Best moment was a 20-something women running her hand along a grey old man's foot long ponytail!!! Gross.

So overall KL lovely, filled with Western things like Pizza Hut and Nando's so looking forward to seeing less commercial places! Still haven't got my head around the squat toilet though: do you actually have to fully undress to use it??!!? Either way I'm avoiding it for as long as possible!

Much Malaysian love, Claire xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
