Having left the relatively cool air of the coast we headed inland and through the Delta where the temperature on the car's external guage read 120 degrees farenheit - not sure what that is in normal money but it's bloody hot. We stopped overnight at a town called Tracy where the locals were nowhere to be seen. The staff at the motel told us to stay inside as the heat and poor air quality (fires in Big Sur not helping) was bad for you. Nothing else really to say about this place, apart from it's funny name, other than this is where Claire took Chris to experience his first dinner at a chain called Denny's. Never before have we been stuffed and had nearly a third of the food left on the table!

After another overnight stop in the middle of nowhere (a town called Sonora) and a pizza from Round Table (triple cheese and the size of a car tyre - not nice) we got up early and headed for Yosemite National Park. First stop was the Bridalveil Falls where we parked and took a walk through the trees to the base of the falls. There were many large boulders and rocks with many people trying to climb them, unsuccsefully, just to get a little closer to the spray. After our short exhersion the temperature had started to rise so we took refuge at the Visitor's Centre and had a look at the exhibits and history of the Park's geology and wildlife. After a little more exploring we stopped and took in the enormity of El Capitan - a huge ice-formed granite cliff on the side of a mountain and had a walk over a crystal blue stream where we found a small duckling battling against the current. Ahh,bless.
