After a good night's sleep on the ferry we headed north for an overnight stop in Albury/Wodonga on the Victoria/New South Wales border. Not really anything to right home about here but we made the most of it and had a night out at the cinema watching a romantic chick-flick, Made of Honour.
We arrived in the capital on the 12th without even realising we had entered the ACT (Australian Capital Territiry)! After finding our accomodation for the night we topok a walk around the central city and found ourselves in a YHA bar and a selection of good beers on tap - and they put them in a pint glass too! Tuesday we decided that we had to see as much a we could condiering this is supposed to be the capital city. As it happens it was the day of the Budget as hence expected the placeto be heaving and difficult to get around/park - nope - just like any other day, this place is different and purpose built. We started with the Old Parliament House which is only circa 80 years old. We had a guided tour around this fantastic building which has so much character that it is a real shame that it is not longer used. It was interesting to learn about the histiry of the country and it's politics and how similar things devlop(ed) to that in the UK. Next came the New Parliament House in which we had the opportunity to sit in the public gallery whilst parliament was open. It's strange though, you come half way around the world and see more of the government than we have on our own doorstep! We spent the afternoon at the Australian War Memorial whih has so muh history in it we did not give it justice before ending the day at the Blank Mountain Tower and Red Hill lookouts.
