By home, I mean my hostel, where I've been living for almost 3 months. Yet in that time, I haven't left for more than a day trip. This is due partly to poverty, partly to laziness, and partly to my work schedule. But then an opportunity presented itself that I was able to overcome these obstacles. My BC friend Todd was heading down to the southwest tip of Australia, about 3 hours from Fremantle, and asked me to join him.

So after work on Sunday I took a bus down to Busselton, where Todd met me, since he was in the area watching a rally race. We camped for free in his van in a parking lot near the Busselton Jetty, which is the longest wood jetty in the southern hemisphere, being nearly 2 km long. The sunrise was amazing that morning, which surprised me, since the sun rises in the east, but Busselton is located in such a way on the bay that sunrises can be seen. We also went to some caves, which are all over the Margaret River region. It's also famous for wineries. We went on a tour of the Leeuwin winery yesterday. Our tour guide may have been a bit drunk, but she did give us samples of some lovely, expensive wine, so it was all good. Oh yeah, the battery of the van died, so we had to spend an hour having it jumped, and having it towed around the parking lot by a truck. It was pretty funny, but only in retrospect. Since we only had 2 days off (a Monday and Tuesday) and the weather wasn't very nice, it was a little depressing to think we might have to waste time and money at a garage. But it all worked out.

Last Thursday also worked out well. It was the perfect day for beach volleyball, and I had the day off. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing our serves all over the place, and in the end Team Canada won... well, we won the last game, but the stats on the other games are a bit fuzzy. We'll blame the wind.
