I went to Rottnest Island nearly 2 weeks ago, which is famous for quokkas. It was named Rottnest because the Dutch guy who found the island thought the little guys were rats and rottnest literally means "rats' nest." Fortunately, quokkas are not disgusting rats, they are cute little guys who will nuzzle up your camera if you give them half a chance. Apparently they also like to get drunk. Rottnest Island is really beautiful, especially Salmon Bay. Greig was my tour guide, as he had been before to go fishing, and had decided to bring several thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment to take pictures. We had a lovely day just walking around and taking the bus to various beautiful beaches along the island.

A couple of days later there was a toga party at the hostel. It also happened to be the day that 6 guys in our hostel (of 55 people) had their heads shaved in order to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. I had 5 victims (Greig shaved his own head.) Our hostel raised about $400. (Suggestions to change the name of our hostel from Pirates Backpackers to Skinheads Backpackers were quickly dismissed.)

I've also been on a sunset kick lately, since I realized I'm only going to be here for a little over 2 weeks, and I keep on saying "I need pictures of the sunset." I went to Perth on Thursday to take pictures from King's Park over the Swan River. Yesterday I went to South Beach, where I saw not only a great sunset, but adorable babies who were out to get one another. Tonight's sunset at the harbour was by far the most spectacular. Western Australia definitely has the best sunsets I have ever seen.
